Ashesh Shah is a recipient of The UNESCO Asia Pacific Cultural Center’s photo-contest, Award for Excellence, Japan, held in July 1999. His pictures were showcased in the Times of India Guide Book on Bombay. His pictures on the plague epidemic in western India in 1994 was carried as a double spread by TIME magazine, and on Mumbai riots (after the demolition of Babri Masjid) in ASIA WEEK in 1993. He held a successful photo Exhibition on ‘Children’, at Max Muller Bhavan. Human- interest pictures is his forte.
Currently, Ashesh works for MINT newspaper as a retainer. He worked single handedly as the only photographer in the bureau and succeeded in producing best results.
Ashesh’s excellence varies from Business Features, Business Profiles, Human-Interest and Corporate Photography.
1966 born, Mumbai bred Ashesh Shah is a commerce graduate from Bombay University. He however, cut his teeth in news Photography. He began his more than decade old career in the year 1989 with the largest selling eveninger in Mumbai, MID-DAY.
From 1994 to 1999, Ashesh worked as a staff photographer with INDIA TODAY, India’s leading newsmagazine. Apart from a plethora of news related, business and feature pictures at the regional level, he was also given the added responsibility of expanding the magazine’s North - East bureau. Based in Guwahati, he covered several political and social events in the north-eastern region of India.
Ashesh worked as a senior photographer with JASUBHAI DIGITAL MEDIA (JDM) from 1999 to 2001. A Company known for its Technology based magazines. JDM brings out magazines like Digit, Network Computing and Information Week. JDM has collaborated with publishers like CMP - USA. He participated in visualizing story concepts and covers for different magazines of the group. On few occasions he shot advertisements for the in-house MarCom department. Apart from pictures, he was also involved with finer aspects of designing the pages of the magazine.
He has also contributed photographs for foreign magazines like POZ, a medical journal, USA, NEW WORLD, German based magazine. He has also shot pictures for foreign publications like Conde Nast contract publishing UK, FINANCIAL TIMES, LLYODS group of publications, UK.
He has also Freelanced for Indian News Paper and Magazines such as The Times of India, The Week, USP Age, Business Today.
He has done projects for Cyquador (IT CO), MOTECH (Reliance software company), Sclalfhorst, German engineering company, HP Labs India (IIT Project), Pipava Port.
He keeps himself abreast with the economical, cultural and political developments in the country. He likes to maintain physical fitness and is an avid listener of Indian Classical music.
